College Basketball Picks November 8
We were able to eek out a nice win yesterday by getting that early line of 20.5 with the Gators. We have some quality games today and this weekend! Let’s get right into it.
Kansas -7.5 vs. North Carolina
Kansas was a powerhouse last season at Allen Fieldhouse with a 15-1 record. The Jaywaks return some key vertans as well. Hunter Dickinson, Dajuan Harris Jr., KJ Adams Jr. all return after productive seasons in 2023-2024. Kansas won and covered the spread in their first game of the season handily against Howard. They were led by senior transfer Zeke Mayo, who pitched in 19 points and five three-pointers off the bench.
North Carolina is also a veteran team with a nice combination of some young talent. Elliot Cadeau, RJ Davis, Jae’Lyn Withers, and Jalen Washington all return from last season, and the team added the 8th highest-ranked recruit Ian Jackson.
I do worry a bit about this UNC defense that allowed 76 points to one of the worst offenses in the nation in Elon. I think the Jaywaks relentless scoring and defense at home will cause some issues for the Tar Heels.
Duke Team Total Over 88.5 Points
Although Duke did not cover our first half spread on opening night, they did eventually cover the game spread and scored 96 points against Maine. According to KenPom Army is a significantly worse defense than Maine, although we have just one game of data points.
Cooper Flagg looked solid in his first game as a Blue Devil, scoring 18 points. What Duke fans should be even more enthused about is freshman Kon Knueppel. Knueppel made three three-pointers and caused alot of issues for the Maine defense. Procotor also pitched in with three three-pointers, yet Duke only shot 37% from three. Not bad, but I think this can improve with the quality looks they were getting and missing on opening night.
