MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – World Series Game 1 – October 25
New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
First Pitch – 8:08 pm EST

The first inning run scoring for game one is a tough one to dissect. On one hand, I do really like how Gerrit Cole has looked as of late. Particularly early in the game, he’s been difficult to get anything going on. However, he is giving up quite a bit more in terms of hits than he did during the regular season. During the regular season, he was giving up roughly 7.39 hits per nine innings. That number has ballooned up to 10.47 per nine innings during the postseason. Combine that with how the Dodgers’ bats have looked so far, and we already have some questions about how viable the NRFI would be here
Then when we combine those questions with the Jack Flaherty of it all, we have to go with a YRFI. Flaherty got absolutely ripped the last time he pitched, which was game five against the Mets. He gave up three runs in the first inning and went on to surrender eight over the course of 3.0 innings pitched. That wasn’t necessarily new either, with him giving up three runs in the first two innings of a start with the Padres – which took place with just one start in between. Between the questions I have with Cole being more hittable and Flaherty being downright shaky, we’ll grab a YRFI here.
