Lock Selection: Steelers

The Steelers have done it again—another year with a less-than-impressive cast of characters on offense and another year of above-average team performance. Mike Tomlin is proving the haters (me included) wrong once again.

I thought this would be the year the Steelers finally bottom out and would be selecting in the top seven of the NFL Draft in April. Instead, Justin Fields led the team to four wins in their first six games, and Russell Wilson defeated the Jets last Sunday. They sit in second place in the AFC North at 5-2.

I still think the decision to switch to Russell Wilson is the wrong one, but time will tell. The Steelers have another one on Sunday Night Football, this time against the other New York team. Although the Giants have shown some flashes this season with the emergence of Malik Nabers, this team is not good.

The offensive line seemed to be improved from last season, yet they allowed eight sacks against the Eagles last week without their All-Pro left tackle, Andrew Thomas. Thomas will miss an extended stretch, which is terrible news for Big Blue. Daniel Jones simply cannot overcome weak offensive line play.

I expect TJ Watt, Cam Hayward, and the Steelers’ defensive line to feast on Sunday. Pittsburgh will roll at home.

Contrarian Selection: Packers

It was looking grim for the Green Bay Packers after their Friday night loss in Week 1 against the Eagles. Not only did they lose a back-and-forth affair, but they also lost their quarterback with a knee injury. Luckily for them, Jordan Love missed just two games with what seemed like it could be a season-ending injury.

Green Bay is 5-2 in the loaded NFC North after an impressive win against the Texans in Week 7. The Packers’ defense, led by Jaire Alexander and Rashan Gary, is elite. They held CJ Stroud to 10/21 for just 86 yards.

Green Bay’s one area of concern is turnovers. Jordan Love leads the league in interceptions despite playing in just five games. If they can protect the ball with Matt LaFleur’s offense, the sky is the limit.

The Jaguars are coming off two weeks in London and finally have a game back in their stadium. Trevor Lawrence has been a major disappointment this season, and he’ll have an uphill battle going against this Green Bay pass defense. I think the Packers won’t have any issues going into Jacksonville and getting a victory.
