Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick’em Plays – October 16
October is here. The playoffs are here. The best sports time of the year is here. If you aren’t familiar with playoff baseball, buckle up. Every pitch and every at-bat is important and can change the course of baseball history. We have the NLCS tonight! Let’s get into it.
Pete Alonso Higher Than 7.0 Fantasy Points
After what seemed like a disappointing regular season, Pete Alonso has come up enormous for the Mets in the playoffs. Alonso has three homers and a .996 OPS in the 2024 postseason. His biggest swing came when the Mets were just two outs away from elimination against the Brewers.
The series moves to New York, tied at one game a piece. Alonso and the Mets will face Walker Buehler, a guy who has struggled for much of the 2024 season. In Buehler’s last start against the Padres, he surrendered six earned runs in 5.0 innings.
Alonso’s numbers against Buehler are staggering. The 29-year-old slugger is 5-14 with four homers, a 6.31 wOBA, a .343 xBA, a .874 xSLG, and an average exit velocity of 97.7 MPH against Buehler. I think Pete has another huge game on Wednesday!
Francisco Lindor Higher Than 0.5 Runs
We’ve talked at length about Francisco Lindor willing this Mets team to the playoffs and now through the playoffs. It seems like Lindor always comes through for New York in the biggest spots. Lindor only has two career at bats against Buehler and is 1-2 with a home run.
Lindor’s on base percentage in the postseason is an outstanding .372. I think there will be a lot of runs scored in this game, so Lindor, at the top of the Mets order, should be on base quite a bit and will be in position to score a run. Roll with Frankie to score a run in Game 3!
Shohei Ohtani Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
Ohtani has struggled a bit this postseason. The soon-to-be NL MVP is hitting just .222 with one homer and five RBIs. I do really like this matchup though, against Luis Severino.
Ohtani has hit Severino quite well throughout his career. He is 3-6 with a home run, an xBA of .513, and an xSLG of 1.179. Once again, I think Game 3 will have lots of runs, and if the Dodgers are going to stay in the game, their best player will have to contribute in a major way.
Expect Shohei to deliver in this spot.
