On Thursday night, Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers head to the Pacific Northwest to take on Geno Smith, the Seahawks, and the 12th man. The 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff will kick off Week 6 exclusively on Amazon Prime. Let’s take a look at this 49ers-Seahawks preview.
The 49ers enter this divisional matchup as 3.5-point road favorites. The 49ers are only 2-3 after five weeks after a rough start to the NFL season. They’ve once again been plagued by injuries to their stars to open a season. Christian McCaffery will not make his return in this game, while George Kittle was on the injury report, but has been cleared to play. Even their kicker Jake Moody injured his ankle and isn’t likely to play Thursday.
On the Seattle side of things, they’ve kicked the season off at 3-2. They won their first three games starting the season a cool 3-0, before dropping the last two games to Detroit and the New York Giants. The Seahawks have lost five straight games to the 49ers, their last win coming in December of 2021. That win was their fourth in a row over San Francisco at the time.
San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks Preview and Predictions
Jordan Mason Over 80.5 Rushing Yards (-123)
The Seahawks’ rushing defense hasn’t held up well against running backs through the first five weeks of the season. Last week rookie Tyrone Tracy torched them in his first career start for 129 yards on 18 attempts. In Week 4 Jahmyr Gibbs went for 78 on the ground, while David Montgomery added another 40. In week 2 against the Patriots Antonio Gibson ran for 96 yards while Rhmondre Stevenson added 81 of his own.
On top of the Seattle rush defense being weak, Jordan Mason has been the man for San Francisco in McCaffery’s absence. Mason has had at least 77 rushing yards in all five weeks and cleared the 100-yard mark on the ground in three of the five games as the starter. Mason is a ladder candidate with 150+ rushing yards checking in at 9/1 odds.
Geno Smith Over 13.5 Rushing Yards (-125)
When you think of mobile rushing quarterbacks, Geno Smith likely isn’t one of the top names to come to mind. However, he’s been running the ball well this season. He’s cleared the 13.5 mark in three of the Seahawks’ five games. Not only has he cleared that mark, he’s run for over 30 yards in each of those games.
The 49er’s defense has been prone to giving up some rushing yards to the quarterback this season when they’ve played quarterbacks willing to run. They gave up 83 yards to Kyler Murray on just seven attempts last week and Sam Darnold ran for 32 yards on five carries in Week 2.
