Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – September 24
Shohei Ohtani – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Nobody in baseball is hotter than Shohei Ohtani right now. He clearly had the plan to put up gaudy numbers and needed to accelerate those plans with the season closing in. He now has 14 hits in his last four games and half of those have been for extra bases. If that’s not enough reason to get down on a 1.5 total base projection, consider his history with Michael King. He’s 5-for-12 against his career, with four of the five hits going for extra bases (yielding a 1.250 slugging percentage).
Framer Valdez – Higher than 17.5 Outs Recorded
Framber Valdez is on a run of achieving this projection. He’s hit it in each of the last four games and in eight of his last ten. Facing the Mariners shouldn’t hurt as they have been rough offensively. They rank 29th in team batting average and 30th in team strikeouts. They’ve been a touch better at scoring runs that you might expect, but are still in the bottom third of the league. That should lead to a longer outing for Valdez.
Gio Urshela – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
As the Braves enter into a must win series, Gio Urshela has been one of the hot bats for them. He is riding a six-game hit streak with four of those being multi-hit games. He also has a homer in back-to-back games. I’m not sure I’d pencil him in for another one here, but I like his chances of getting a couple of bags.
