Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick’em Plays – September 23
Aaron Nola Higher Than 37.5 Fantasy Points
Aaron Nola has put together another solid season in Philadelphia. The 31-year-old veteran is 12-8 with a 3.54 ERA in 188.1 innings pitched. This marks the seventh time in Nola’s career he has eclipsed the 150-inning mark, the true definition of a workhorse. On Monday, Nola and the first-place Phillies take on the Chicago Cubs.
Nola has dominated Cubs hitters throughout their careers. He’s faced them 137 times, only surrendering 23 hits and three homers. Nola also has a 29.9% K% against Cubs hitters. He also looked sharp in his last outing, going seven strong innings and striking out nine hitters. I like Nola in this matchup and expect him to go deep into today’s ball game!
Jake McCarthy Higher Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Jake McCarthy has been a key piece of this Diamondbacks team. Known for his elite speed and defense, McCarthy has impressed with the bat in 2024. His .352 OBP and .286 batting average both rank as career bests. On Monday, McCarthy and the D-Backs take on the San Francisco Giants.
Hayden Birdsong is on the hill for San Fran. McCarthy is 1-2 against Birdsong in his career with a .478 xBA and a 100.4 MPH exit velocity. Great numbers, but an extremely small sample size. McCarthy has also been solid as of late, recording five hits in his last five games. I think McCarthy can do some damage in his spot and help the Diamondbacks secure a playoff birth.
