Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – September 18

Spencer Schwellenbach – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts

The first two starts of September were a little shaky, particularly on the strikeout front for Spencer Schwellenbach. However, prior to those two starts, he had been higher than this projection in seven straight games – dating all the way back to July 12th. He also bounced back with six Ks against the Dodgers last time out – which gives me confidence that those first two were just a blip on the radar.

Juan Soto – Higher than 1.5 Total bases

The projection on Soto here is low thanks to four straight games coming in below it. However, he snapped that streak on Tuesday with six total bases in just two at bats. While his walks are always a concern when playing the total bases, I think he should still get ample opportunity to grab a couple bases here. Especially when you consider how well he did against Bryce Miller in their only other meeting – he came up three times in that game and homered twice.

Ketel Marte – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Ketel Marte had a bit of a slow return from his injury, but seems to have gotten back to where he belongs now. He has six hits in his last six games and half of them have been for extra bases. He’ll have two advantages at his side on Wednesday. The first is the thin air of Coors Field, which has already aided him with a dinger in this series. The second is Austin Gomber on the bump, who he’s slugged .762 against lifetime with a 1.197 OBP.
