Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – September 14
Rafael Devers – Higher than 0.5 Home Runs
I usually don’t like going big with dingers, but the 2.48x Scorcher that you’re getting for Devers here is well worth it. The number is bit inflated due to him being in a home run drought, but when he gets hits off of Gerrit Cole, they’re almost always a dinger. That’s not even hyperbole either. He’s a career 14-for-41 (.342) against the Yankees ace, and eight of those 14 hits are dingers. That comes out to a .951 slugging percentage. With numbers like that, you could dabble on the total bases, but I have a good feeling he gets one out of the park.
Lawrence Butler – Higher than 1.5 Total bases
Maybe you’ve missed it (you may since he’s playing for the Athletics), but Lawrence Butler has a 21 game hitting streak. He’s not just hardly getting by with it either. He has 32 hits in that span, which means he’s averaging almost 1.5 hits per game as is. He also has 64 total bases in that streak, which comes out to over three per game. With three weeks of averaging twice this projection, you have to like him keeping it going.
Simeon Woods Richardson – Lower than 4.5 Hits Allowed
The Twins have been keeping Woods Richardson a bit shorter as the season rolls on. He has gone over 80 pitches in just half of his last six outings. That’s helped him to stay lower than this number in five of those six games. Additionally, the Reds are in a bit of a slump. They’re averaging just six total hits per game over the last three. If Woods Richardson only goes around 4.0 innings as he has, they shouldn’t have enough time to rack up that many.
