We do have some large spreads this week, but I still don’t see a consensus lock on the board. This week, we have a lot more road favorites, which is a bit scary. After their performance in Week 1, the Panthers are going to be a team many people fade, but are we really going to trust this young Chargers team on the road? No thanks.
The Ravens will most likely be selected the most this week, but I’ll be staying away. Lamar Jackson has missed multiple days of practice, and that offensive line did not look good at all. Good luck against Maxx Crosby and Christian Wilkins.
Lock Selection: Dallas Cowboys
Yes, I know the Saints won 47-10 against the Panthers, but it’s the Panthers. I’m not overreacting at all to the blowout. Derek Carr played well but was throwing to wide-open receivers all over the field. I expect Mike Zimmer and the Dallas defense to offer a lot more resistance to Carr and the New Orleans offense. Dallas didn’t exactly wow me against Cleveland, but this is a game they should have easily.
Dak didn’t play amazingly in Week 1, but he did what he needed to do to get a victory on the road. I feel much better about this Cowboys squad now that their quarterback and top receiver have their contract situations resolved. Dallas was a perfect 8-0 at home in the regular season in 2023, and I expect that trend to continue here.
Contrarian Selection: New York Jets
I faded the Tennessee Titans last week in my contrarian selection, and I’ll be doing the same thing in Week 2! It really wasn’t going well for us in the first half as the Bears found themselves down 17-0, but nevertheless, we’ll take our win. The Jets got smoked in their much-anticipated first start with Aaron Rodgers, take two.
Good news for New York: their schedule is pretty weak going forward, starting with a road game against the Titans. Last week, I said I gave the Titans credit for going all in on their quarterback, Will Levis. Levis made some boneheaded mistakes that cost Tennessee that game.
I’m not going to overreact to the Jets losing to probably the second-best team in the NFL over the last five seasons in San Fran. I am concerned about their defensive line, which got only two pressures Monday on Brock Purdy. If they can get the deal done with Haason Reddick, this would be a slam dunk, but until then, this will be our contrarian pick!
