Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick’em Plays – September 9
Paul Skenes Higher Than 37.5 Fantasy Points
It’s always electric when the young phenom Paul Skenes takes the hill for the Pittsburgh Pirates. His starts have become must-watch television, and he’s dominated in his rookie season. We faded the Miami Marlins offense last week, which paid off for us. We’ll be doing that again in this spot.
Skenes has devastating stuff, but he’s struggled to pitch deep into games lately, going just 5.0 innings in his last two starts. Against this Miami offense, Skenes should have no problem pitching into the 7th inning. This is a Miami offense that is still second to last in runs per game and has struck out the 11th most times since the All-Star break.
Miami’s offense has improved, but there just aren’t many hitters in their lineup you should worry about, especially with a pitcher like Skenes on the mound.
Austin Wells Higher Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
There is no question that Austin Wells has turned into the Yankees’ fourth-best hitter this season. He has put together a super under-the-radar 2024 campaign. Wells had an OPS of .941 in July and followed that up with a .936 OPS in August. He has struggled to find these same results thus far in September, but I really like him in this spot.
On Monday, Wells and the Yanks face off against Kansas City Royals’ starter Brady Singer. Singer is having a solid year in his own right, but Wells dominated him in their last match-up. In a June 11th game, Wells went 2-3 off Singer, with a home run, 3 RBIs, and an average exit velocity of 104 MPH.
I expect Wells’ September breakout to start tonight!
