Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – August 31
Justin Turner – Higher than 0.5 Total Bases
Because of his relative slow August, Justin Turner is just looking to get one base on Saturday. While his bat has been slow this month, he does have hits in five of his last seven games. Not only has his bat picked up in the last week, but he’s also getting one of the best pitching matchups he could. Tyler Anderson will be the Angels starter on Saturday and Turner has plenty of history with him. He’s 18-for-38 career against him with eight of those hits being for extra bases. That yields a .474 batting average and a .872 slugging percentage head-to-head.
Max Fried – Lower than 5.5 Hits Allowed
It was a rough couple first games back from injury for Fried. However, he’s settled in nicely since then. In his last three games, he’s stayed under this projection in each of the last three games. That includes a game with these same Phillies. In that game he allowed just four hits over 7.0 innings. I like his chance to keep it within one hit from there and repeat the performance.
Zebby Matthews – Lower than 5.0 Hits Allowed
Toronto is one of the worst teams in the league in terms of getting hits. In the last three games, they’ve averaged just 5.33 per game. Of course, I expect the starter to give up five or less hits in this one, esepcially against Zebby Matthews. Matthews’ career might only be three games long, but he’s looked great in all of them. He hasn’t gone higher than this projection even once, so let’s let that ride.
