The NFL Season is right around the corner, which means it is Fantasy Football season. Of course, everyone wants to know who I should draft and who the sleepers are. There are very few true hidden gems. But we think some guys can break out of and outperform their current average draft position (ADP). 12 Fantasy Football Sleepers For The 2024 NFL Season
Again, ‘Sleeper’ is a very subjective term based on your league setting, size, and how aggressively you follow the NFL. Many of us Degens who play dynasty and follow it year-round are more familiar with NFL news or rookies. We will use the following definitions for each position to define criteria.
QB – A Quarterback being drafted outside of the top 15 at the position.
RB – A Running Back being drafted outside of the top 25 at the position.
WR – A Wide Receiver being drafted outside of the top 35 at the position.
TE – A Tight End being drafted outside of the top 12 tight ends.
QB, Will Levis – Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans have done a lot to build around Will Levis. This offseason, they poured resources into the 32nd-ranked offensive line. The offense lacked big plays and explosiveness. They brought in Brian Callahan from Cincinnati, Calvin Ridley, and Tony Pollard. Levis has the fifth-best Strength of Schedule for all Quarterbacks, and this is his first offseason as the starter.
Last year, Levis had some highs and some lows. The highs were his aggressiveness down the field, which resulted in some big games, including a QB6 overall performance in his first start. He finished in the top-20 in 5 of his 19 games last season.
This Titans team will look a lot different without Derrick Henry. Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears are both dynamic in the passing game. The combination of DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, and Treylon Burks makes Levis a popular fantasy football sleeper candidate.
QB, Trevor Lawrence – Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawrence had a tough 2023 campaign after making a lot of progress in 2022. The fantasy community is down on him after his QB13 season after being drafted so high. Lawrence played through a ton of injuries last year, and now he is being drafted as the QB16. Lawrence’s rushing ability helps offer some security and differentiates him from many of the quarterbacks in this range.
This season, you should expect a more downfield passing attack from the Jaguars. They added Gabriel Davis and Brian Thomas Jr., both big-play threats.
Their skillset complements what Evan Engram, Christian Kirk, and Travis Etienne offer in the passing game. The team has also made important additions to the offensive line to help support the passing game. Lawrence is a late-round quarterback option or a great value in Superflex leagues.
RB, Brian Robinson Jr. – Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders have new ownership, new coaching, and many changes. Kliff Kingsbury and Anthony Lynn join the coaching staff. From weeks 1 to 12 last year, Brian Robinson was the RB5.
He remains the RB1 in Washington, and we have seen good fantasy production from these Kingsbury offenses. Austin Ekeler is there, but we have seen him decline, and he was behind Robinson in many major metrics.
Brian Robinson was in the top-12 in both passing blocking and yards run per route in 2023. He is a good pass-catching back. Based on our current information, Austin Ekeler will be involved, but Robinson is the clear-cut RB1 in this offense. Currently, he is being drafted outside of the top 30 running backs, and he should be drafted inside the top 24, at least.
I love Brian Robinson as one of my fantasy football sleepers in 2024!
RB, Gus Edwards – Los Angeles Chargers
Gus Edwards is coming off of a double-digit touchdown season. He looked great coming off of the ACL injury and is now two years removed from his ACL injury. He has been the backup of J.K. Dobbins in the past, but this was before Dobbins went down with a torn Achilles. Dobbins may start the season on the PUP or limited. He is coming off of back-to-back season and ending injuries.
The Chargers lead the NFL in rush yards before contact this preseason. We know they are going to be running the damn ball. Edwards has been fantasy-relevant in a shared backfield.
If he can get the starting job in this run-first offense, Edwards could be this year’s veteran RB to own. I have him a little lower in PPR formats, but the volume and the redzone opportunities are enticing as a fantasy football sleeper.
WR, Curtis Samuel – Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills have the most vacated targets in the NFL. The team does not have a clear-cut #1 right now, and Samuel is familiar with this offense. Joe Brady spent time with Curtis Samuel in Carolina. He has been a relevant player in the past, and Josh Allen is the best quarterback he will ever play with. I want pieces of good offenses, especially if I can get them at value.
If Curtis Samuel ends up being the Buffalo Bills’ #1 target, you will get a huge return at his current cost. Even if he is the #2 or #3 target in this offense, you are getting good value with him being drafted as pick 125 (WR50).
Keon Coleman is being drafted just ahead of him. Both could make this list. If you want a cheap WR1 on a good offense, draft one of these fantasy football sleepers.
WR, Ja’Lynn Polk – New England Patriots
According to the ADP, Ja’Lynn Polk is the cheapest #1WR in the NFL. He is being drafted around most teams’ third wide receivers at pick 181 (WR67). The Patriots’ offense projects to be really bad, and Drake Maye’s reports have not been very positive.
The team brought over Jacoby Brissett, who played with Offensive Coordinator Alex Van Pelt last season. We saw Brissett be successful with Amari Cooper, and he has fed fantasy wide receivers in the past.
Polk is an outside wide receiver offering some inside flexibility and big-play speed. This offense will likely be playing from behind a lot, and garbage time points count the same for fantasy football. Volume is king, especially if you play in full point-per-reception leagues.
A lot of leagues are moving towards three wide receiver formats as well. Don’t be afraid to draft rookie wide receivers anymore. Here is one with a clear path to opportunity.
TE, Pat Freiermuth – Pittsburgh Steelers
Pat Freiermuth has flashed in the past, and availability has been his biggest concern. We can’t predict injury, but this concern is now baked into his cost. Now he is being drafted at pick 127 (TE15) and is a late-round tight end option.
You don’t have to take him as your starter, but he has the potential to jump into the top-12 tight ends in 2024. Targets and Air Yards were key Performance Indicators for top-12 tight ends in 2023.
All top-12 tight ends were #1 or #2 on their team in targets. Who are the top targets in Pittsburgh right now? There are a lot of vacated targets and a path to being a top target.
Arthur Smith comes over, and thankfully, he didn’t bring Jonnu Smith. He loves targeting tight ends and helped Jonnu Smith break out. Last year, his offense led the NFL in air yards to the tight end position. If Freiermuth can stay healthy, he will be a top-12 tight end in 2024 and is one of the sneaky fantasy football sleepers!
TE, Tyler Conklin – New York Jets
Aaron Rodgers has propped up tight ends in the past with Nathaniel Hackett. We saw Tyler Conklin heavily involved in 2023, but unfortunately, it wasn’t Rodgers throwing it. I’ve already talked about the importance of air yards and targets.
Last year, Conklin was 9th at the position in air yards and 13th in targets. Conklin is not a household name, and he is going undrafted.
The path to being a top-two target is tough for Conklin. But we know this Aaron Rodgers offense will be airing it out, and we could see a high TD total for someone like Tyler Conklin. We saw it with Robert Tonyan just a few years ago. Mike Williams’ health could also play a factor in this equation.
QB, Sam Darnold – Minnesota Vikings
Sam Darnold got to sit and learn with Kyle Shanahan in 2023. He landed with Kevin O’Connell and the Minnesota Vikings. Darnold was a priority pick-up for Minnesota when they decided to move on from Kirk Cousins.
They needed a veteran who could learn their system quickly and be a bridge for J.J. McCarthy. Unfortunately for McCarthy, he is out for the season with a knee injury.
Darnold finds himself in a great situation. He has a great playcaller and a great set of weapons. We now know that Darnold is expected to start all season, and he has Justin Jefferson.
Add Jordan Addison, Aaron Jones, and, at some point, T.J. Hockenson to this group. Sam Darnold’s ADP might rise slightly, but he is still one of the top fantasy football sleepers.
RB, Jaylen Wright – Miami Dolphins
We have become accustomed to rookie running backs impacting fantasy year one. Usually, one or two guys are drafted early. This year is different, even with Jonathan Brooks being drafted in the fifth.
The team is reporting they will play it safe, and he might not play until Week 4 or 5. So, who would be next after Brooks? Trey Benson, MarShawn Lloyd, and Blake Corum are the three next most likely candidates.
They are just one injury away from being top-20 RBs, and all should be on your radar. A little deeper, you can find Jaylen Wright. If you want Miami Dolphins running backs, this guy has multiple paths to success.
Achane and Mostert will split the duties, but if either went down, we would see Wright. He has a similar build to Mostert and is a bigger back, but he has the blazing speed that they love in this offense.
WR, Darnell Mooney – Atlanta Falcons
Darnell Mooney has fallen out of favor with the fantasy community—two disappointing seasons in a row after his breakout campaign will do that. But, there are some questions about his situation and how much of this is on him. Mooney got a three-year contract for $39 million to join the Atlanta Falcons. The team just lost Rondale Moore for the season.
Mooney jumps into a situation where he could be the #2 wide receiver right out of the gate. He is an explosive player, and a healthy Kirk Cousins could help Mooney bounce back. He is going undrafted in some leagues and is a popular last-round pick. If you want a deeper fantasy football sleeper, look for Mooney.
TE, Ben Sinnott – Washington Commanders
Normally, we don’t draft Rookie tight ends, but that is changing, too. Last year, multiple tight ends became fantasy-relevant early. Sinnott has no clear path to success, but that could change.
Zach Ertz is the starter, but he has slowed down quite a bit over the last few seasons. The team just traded Jahan Dotson, and there are questions about who will be the top targets.
Sinnott is an extremely athletic tight end that can be used in multiple ways. He is very athletic after the catch and can get open downfield. We expect a ton of pass volume on a team that should have a fast-paced offense and bad defense. Sinnott is a rookie fantasy football sleeper you can get with your last pick.
