Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick‘em Plays – August 8
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
Vlad Guerrero Jr. is proving all his doubters wrong in 2024. He is slashing an unreal .317/.391/.536 with 22 home runs and 72 RBIs. Vlad really heated up in July, finishing with an OPS of 1.113 for the month, and he is showing no signs of slowing down. In 17 at-bats in August, Guerrero has an OPS of 1.414.
On Thursday, the 25-year-old is facing Orioles starter Dean Kramer. Vlad has had success against Kramer in his career. He is 8-25 with 4 home runs and a .331 xBA.
Not to mention, Vlad Jr. has owned the Orioles this season. He is hitting .439 with a 1.378 OPS against Baltimore this season. This selection is as easy as it gets for me.
Hunter Greene Higher Than 41.5 Fantasy Points
Hunter Greene has somehow flown under the radar this season. Very quietly, he is stringing together a Cy Young-worthy campaign. Greene is 8-4 with a 2.83 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP.
Greene has only allowed 3 earned runs in his last five starts. He also had arguably his best start of the season in his last outing, striking out 11 batters and allowing just one hit in 6.0 innings pitched.
On Thursday, Greene and the Reds will face the Miami Marlins, who are a AAA ball club at this point. Miami is second-worst to only the White Sox in runs per game in 2024, and now, with the departures of Bryan De La Cruz, Jazz Chisholm, and Josh Bell, they have been even worse.
I think Greene shoves against Miami today and rakes in the fantasy points!
