Welcome back to Five Minute Fantasy Football. This is 2024 Houston Texans Fantasy Football preview. The first question is, who will be their WR1? Stefon Diggs has been a WR1 for a long time and Nico Collins just got the big contract. Last year Nico Collins shined as their top target. We look at Mike Clay’s projections to get his thoughts. Dave provides his thoughts on the projections and the current average draft position.
2024 Houston Texans: Fantasy Football Preview
C.J. Stroud is currently being drafted as the QB6. He doesn’t offer much as a rusher, but he should have big passing numbers this year. Last year as a Rookie, Stroud 4,103 yards and 23 touchdowns. It was an Aaron Rodgers type season with only 5 interceptions. He gets another offseason to improve and the Texans added pieces around him. They added to the offensive line as well as traded for Stefon Diggs.
Last season Dameon Pierce disappointed and did not perform to his draft cost. Eventually he lost his job to Devin Singletary. The team traded for Joe Mixon and extended him, he will be their starter. Mixon has been great for the Bengals, but they couldn’t afford to keep him. Mixon is RB16 and could end up being a value if he gets the expected volume. Dameon Pierce could end up being a high-valued handcuff this year, he is going late in drafts.
At the Wide Receiver position, this team is stacked. The only problem is, who is their WR1? Stefon Diggs is used to being a target hog, How will he handle it if Nico Collins gets more targets? Nico got the big contract, will he be the top guy? C.J. Stroud said he is going to throw the ball to the open guy. It could be a different WR1 each week. As of now, Nico Collins is being drafted as the WR1, 28th over (WR14). Diggs is not far behind, pick 29 (WR16). Dell is going higher than some WR1s at pick 53. I am drafting Collins comfortably, who are you drafting?
Dalton Schultz is an interesting player, coming off of three top-10 fantasy football seasons in a row. He might be the odd man out with Stefon Diggs coming over. The team also added Cade Stover, former C.J. Stroud teammate. Schultz was also extended this offseason. He is currently being drafted at pick 68 (TE15) and I am avoiding at current cost. He is a late-round tight end option, but I would prefer a tight end with less competition for targets.
