Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick‘em Plays – August 2
Masyn Winn Higher Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Masyn Winn is enjoying a very productive season in 2024. The 22-year-old is slashing .281/.329/.414 with 9 SB and extremely solid defense. On Friday, Winn is Cubs pitcher Javier Assad. Winn is 3-3 against Assad with a home run and a walk. He has an xBA of .623 in those at-bats with an average exit velocity of 94.5 MPH.
Winn has been hitting the ball well since the All-Star break, with 3 home runs in his last seven days, and I really like this matchup against Assad for him.
Cole Ragans Higher Than 38.5 Fantasy Points
Ever since being traded to the Royals, Cole Ragans has been dominant. This season, he is pitching to a 3.37 ERA and has the sixth-most strikeouts in MLB with 153. On Friday, Ragans faces the Detroit Tigers’ offense, which has struggled this season. They are 21st in the league in runs per game with 4.18 and are 26th in team OPS.
Ragans can very well go deep into the game, and with his strikeout rate, he can rake in the Fantasy Points.
Oneil Cruz Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
We have selected Oneil Cruz quite a few times this season, and he has usually cashed in for us. The 25-year-old 6-7 shortstop absolutely mashes the ball but definitely swings and misses at an alarming rate. Cruz has also struggled defensively this season, but that is a story for another day.
I really like Cruz’s matchup today against Brandon Pfaadt. Pfaadt was one of the stories of the 2023 postseason. He struggled to start 2024 but has returned to form recently. Cruz has had success against him in a small sample size. He is 2-3 with a home run and a triple with an xBA of .628 and an average exit velocity of 104.5 MPH.
Yes, it’s a very small sample size, but the 104.5 average exit velocity is staggering, to say the least.
