Manchester United Made Good Use of Former Legend to Help Capture Latest Defensive Signing

It is impossible to understate the importance of Manchester United’s surprise FA Cup Final triumph over local rivals Manchester City back in May. Without that result, a series of repercussions would have played out that would have entirely changed the look of the Old Trafford side today.

Erik ten Hag would almost certainly have lost his job if Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Manioo had not netted that day, but there is now a sense that the powers that be, including those who have taken new positions at the Premier League side, accept that the way in which Manchester United have struggled over the past decade has little or nothing to do with the manager’s who have been in charge since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club back in 2013.

The movements made over the summer thus far may well have left Man United fans quite optimistic about the future, so much so they may even be considering placing a wager on their return to the top four, in which case this DraftKings promo code will come in very helpful indeed.

Having already brought in impressive Dutch winger Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, Man United have now also completed the capture of Lille’s impressive young centre-back Leny Yoro, and by all accounts, they made great use of a former legend in order to lure the promising French teenager to the club.

Manchester United forked out $67 million (£52 million) to snap up Yoro, and he has spoken about having communications with former United hero Rio Ferdinand prior to completing his switch, stating,

“Two weeks ago, he called me,” stated Yoro.’

“We spoke for 10 minutes about Man United, so he helped me a lot to make my choice.”

“He mainly spoke about the club and what it’s like. That this is a historic club with a big story, and if I go there I need to fight for the club, to be ready, because this is the biggest club in the world.”

“It was really good to speak about this.”

The need to shore up United’s backline is very much key to their chances of improving in 2024/25 and beyond, and Yoro has certainly made real in-roads in the professional game since breaking into the Lille first-team set-up in May 2022.

Last season, Yoro played 44 times in all competitions and is on the verge of a first senior French national team cap.

Last season, Man United were all at sea at the back, conceding 58 goals, their worst record of the Premier League era. Though the club could point at a number of injury issues, the fact is that a number of those available to Erik ten Hag are simply not of a standard befitting a club of Manchester United’s stature, and investment in Yoro helps to rectify the problem.

In Yoro, they have one very much for the future who can make an immediate impact. He has an old head on young shoulders and, at 18 years of age, provides the club with something to build around for the long term.
