Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick‘em Plays – July 11

Paul Skenes Higher Than 8.0 Strikeouts

You can’t possibly ask for a much better start to your MLB career than how Skenes has pitched so far. The 22-year-old is 5-0 in 10 starts with a 2.12 ERA. Quite simply, the guy is a phenom. His fastball sits at triple digits, and his slider is as wicked as they come in the big leagues. He may very well start for the NL in the All-Star Game.

On Thursday, Skenes and the Pirates will face the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers strike out the 12th most in baseball, and Skenes has reached 8 strikeouts in six of his last seven starts, so we would need just one more than that.

Aaron Nola Lower Than 32.5 Fantasy Points

Nola has been a staple of consistency over his career, especially for the Phillies. He is pitching to a 3.49 ERA this season, although he has had some of his worst starts of the season as of late.

Nola has faced Dodgers hitters quite a bit over his career, and they have a 0.335 xwOBA against him. This number isn’t too alarming, but when you combine it with his recent struggles and Will Smith’s hot hitting, it doesn’t bode well for Nola.

Yandy Diaz Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases

Diaz has been a staple in this Tampa Bay lineup for years, although he hasn’t been quite as good this season. I love him in this spot because he owns Nestor Cortes, whom he will face today.

Diaz is 12-30 in his career against Cortes with 4 doubles and 3 homers. Diaz has great numbers against most left-handed pitching and Nestor, like most Yankee starting pitchers, has not been great as of late.
