Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – June 25

Oneil Cruz Higher than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs

Oneil Cruz may not be taking the huge leap some were predicting he would have in 2024, but there is no doubt he is quite a productive ball player. At this stage in his career, Cruz strikeouts out an awful lot (5th percentile in K%, 8th percentile in Whiff %, 19th percentile in Chase %), but he certainly hits the ball as hard as any player in baseball (99th percentile in Average Exit Velocity, 100th percentile in Bat Speed, 98th percentile in barrel %, and 94th percentile in Hard-Hit %).

In Tuesday’s matchup against the Reds, Cruz and the Buccos will face off against the fireballer Hunter Greene. Cruz is just 2-8 against Greene in his career, but those 2 were a homer and a double. Not to mention, Cruz hits the ball hard against Greene, averaging 96.1 mph exit velocity in those at-bats. I love Cruz in this spot!

Matt Olson Higher than 0.5 Runs

It seems as though the Braves offense is starting to pick it up in the month of June. Yes, Acuna is out for the season, and yes, they did struggle mightily in April and May, but as the weather gets warmer, so does Atlanta. Matt Olson falls into the category of someone who struggled in the beginning stages of the season. In 90 at-bats in April, Olson hit just .189 with 2 homers.

He has looked much better recently, though. Olson is hitting .275 in June with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs. Like many other Braves, he has great numbers against Cardinals starter Kyle Gibson. Olson is 10-24 with 2 doubles and 4 home runs. Olson can easily just score, thanks to hitting one over the fence in this one.

Gleyber Torres Higher than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs

Torres has burned me a few times this year, and I think if he does it again, he will be on my “DO NOT SELECT” list of players. On paper, this is a great matchup for Torres. He is facing a LHP pitcher in David Peterson, who does not have overpowering stuff and started the season in the minor leagues. Not to mention, Torres has homered off Peterson in his only career AB against him.

But full disclosure: Torres has been a major disappointment this season for the Yankees, in a contract year, no less. Maybe this can be the start of something to come for Gleyber.
