Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – June 19
Ketel Marte Higher than 9.0 Fantasy Points
Ketel Marte has been one of the bright spots for this disappointing Diamondbacks squad. Marte is slashing .286/.349/.515 with 15 home runs and 42 RBIs. He’ll most likely be representing the D-Backs in the All-Star Game. On Wednesday, Marte and Arizona will face the Nationals in Washington.
On the hill for Washington is Patrick Corbin. Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that Patrick Corbin has been one of the worst MLB starting pitchers for the last four seasons. In 2024, Corbin has a 5.84 ERA.
In 10 career plate appearances against Corbin, Marte is 5-9 with a double and 2 home runs. That, combined with his .905 xSLUG, .604 xwOBA, and 97.3 average exit velocity against Corbn, makes this pick a no-brainer.
Kyle Schwarber Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Kyle Schwarber in the month of June might be the second coming of Barry Bonds. After three homers since the last time I made a Schwaber selection, he now has 61 career home runs in June; simply incredible. Schwarby has faced Wednesday starter Matt Waldron twice, one of which being a home run. His average exit velocity against Waldron is 113.4 mph. I just have to go back to June-Schwarber here!
Gerrit Cole Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts
Gerrit Cole will be making his season debut today against the Orioles after missing the first 11 weeks of the season with an elbow injury. Fortunately for Cole and the Yankees, this elbow injury did not require surgery. In Cole’s rehab starts he has looked like his usual self, hitting high velocity with ease and striking out tons of AA batters, as you would expect.
I think 5.5 is a bit low here, especially with Cole’s 21.3% K rate against this Orioles roster in his career. Although he won’t be pitching deep into this game, I expect Cole to hit this strikeout number.
