Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – June 18

Adley Rutschman – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Rutschman smashed a home run off the Philies last night as one of the lone bright spots for the Orioles in that game. That gave him an RBI in every game of that series and an extra-base hit in two of the three. While I’d rather look for a “Hits + Runs + RBIs” projection for him, Underdog doesn’t have one currently listed. However, I like his chances to rip a double or better here, especially when we consider the pitching matchup.

The Orioles backstop has faced Nestor Cortes 15 times in his career. He’s come out of 8 of those with a hit – a .533 average. Between the recent extra-base hits and this matchup, let’s get down with Adley.

Freddie Freeman – Higher than 0.5 Home Runs

Typically I’m not out here looking for the 2.5x scorchers, particularly with dingers, but this one has me hooked. Freeman is riding a seven-game hit streak and is clearly seeing the ball well. He would have had a chance to do this damage yesterday had the Rockies not walked him five times in that one. Now he gets an even more favorable matchup with Austin Gomber on the bump.

Freeman is a career 6-for-11 against Gomber (.546 batting average), Two of those hits have already been home runs and he’ll get the thin air of Denver for the assist here.

Austin Riley – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

A few weeks ago you would have trolled the comment section of a Braves article and found angry fans trying to decide whether to trade Riley or send him to the minors. His cold start seems to have melted and gave way to the old Riley. He has eight hits in his last four games. Perhaps more impressive is that six of those eight hits have been for extra bases including three homers. That means he’s slugging 1.538 in this recent stretch.
