MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 10
New York Yankees vs. Kansas City Royals
First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, Missouri
Broadcast – MLB TV
Both of these teams can score early in the game. Both are in the top seven in runs and first inning runs. Yet here we are, still getting down on the NRFI for this game. The reason? The pitching here gives me confidence.
The Yankees will send Carlos Rodon to the bump. The Yankees’ lefty has only allowed three or more earned runs in a game once this year and that was over a month ago. He has eight wins already this year largely thanks to his 3.02 ERA and holding Kansas City at bay shouldn’t be too much of an ask for half an inning.
On the other side, Seth Lugo has actually been much better. He’ll have the opportunity on Monday night to be the first American League pitcher with double-digit wins. He carries a 2.13 ERA into this game and has allowed more than two earned runs in a game just twice on the season. He’s also been good against the Yankees in his career. In 21.1 innings total, he’s allowed just four earned runs against the Bombers.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 10: No (-120)
Chicago White Sox vs. Seattle Mariners
First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, Washington
Broadcast – ESPN+
Getting behind an NRFI including the White Sox is a bit of a cheat code. Their offense is historically bad this season. They average just 3.06 runs per game, which is half of a run behind every other team in the majors. They’re in the bottom five in terms of first innings runs and going up against Logan Gilbert and his 3.12 ERA won’t help. The top half of this should be a cinch.
The bottom half looks a little trickier on the surface, but there is a lot to like here, too. The first is how good Erick Fedde has been for the White Sox. Despite having no run support, he has a 4-1 record and a 3.27 ERA. He’s striking out just under one per inning and will face the team that is striking out the most in the majors (9.98 per game). When you add that Seattle has the most pitcher-friendly park, then it makes it even easier to get behind.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 10: No (-140)
