MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 7
Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals
First Pitch – 6:45 pm EST
Nationals Park – Washington, DC
Broadcast – ESPN+
The Braves getting out of the first shouldn’t be an issue on Friday evening. The Nationals are the worst team in the league at scoring in the first inning right now. They average just 0.23 runs per game in the first inning and are actually quite a bit worse at home. At home, they score just 0.19 per game in the first inning.
If things couldn’t get more bleak for them, Chris Sale takes the bump for the Braves. He’s one of the early front runners for the Cy Young in the National League. Despite having a rough last start, he has an ERA of just over 3.00. He allowed just two earned runs in all of May, and that was over 32.0 innings pitched.
With the Braves bats waking up a bit, there might be some sweat on that side of the NRFI. However, the Braves also face a tough pitching matchup. Jake Irvin has allowed just four earned runs over his last three starts (18.1 innings). He also has recent success against this very Braves lineup. He threw six innings against them just two weeks ago and allowed no runs while striking out 10. I don’t expect the same results, but it should be enough to get out of the first.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 7: No (-120)
Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago White Sox
First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – NESN
You could take almost any team to shut out the White Sox early (or for any amount of time), and I’m buying in. Their offense is one of the very worst that I’ve seen. They average just 2.97 runs per game, which is 0.69 less than the 29th-ranked team in the league. Cooper Criswell should have no issue shutting them down early in this one. Apart from a rough start against Baltimore, he has been solid for the Red Sox.
The other half of the inning might be even less of a sweat. While the Red Sox have a much better offense, Garrett Crochet has been one of the lone bright spots for the White Sox. He allowed just three earned runs in May over 29.0 innings (0.93 ERA). He followed that up by striking out eight Brewers and holding them to one run in six innings. I don’t think he should have any issues getting us this NRFI.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 7: No (-145)
