MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 4
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
PNC Park – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Broadcast – MLB TV
The top half of the inning is sure to be a little hairy here for the NRFI. The Dodgers’ offense has been as advertised leading into the season. They’re sixth in runs scored per game so far but are on a bit of a skid. In a three-game set with the Rockies, they scored just nine total runs. They also scored in the first inning in just one of those three games.
Now, the Dodgers will face Jared Jones, who has cooled off a bit since his hot start. However, he’s still rocking a 3.55 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP. It’s hard to tell if these last couple of games have just been a fluke or if this is what to expect from him. Either way, I like his strikeout stuff enough to trust him to get me through the first.
The bottom half of the inning should cause way less anxiety. The Pirates are in the bottom third of the league in runs scored and are a touch worse in the first inning than overall. They should be no match for Tyler Glasnow and his 3.05 ERA. He struck out 42 in just 31.0 innings in May, and that was his worst month of the season. He should close out this NRFI for us.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 4: No (-130)
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Miami Marlins
First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
loanDepot park – Maimi, Florida
Broadcast – MLB TV
In the Florida showdown, the Rays will come to the plate first against Jesus Luzardo. Tampa Bay has been uncharacteristically bad at the plate – ranking 25th in runs scored this year. Luzardo hasn’t put up amazing numbers but has been stellar in his last three outings. He has allowed just three earned runs in that span (20.0 innings) and struck out 15 in the process.
On the other side of the coin, Ryan Pepiot will look to keep the Marlins at bay. The good news there is that Miami is one of the five teams worse than the Rays at scoring runs (currently ranked 29th, only ahead of the White Sox). The other good news is that Pepiot has been good on the year. He has a sub-4.00 ERA and a sub-1.00 WHIP. While those numbers aren’t pulling in a Cy Young, they should be enough to limit the Marlins in the first inning.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 4: No (-130)
