Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – June 2
Luis Medina – Higher than 4.5 Hits Allowed
The Athletics are calling up Luis Medina to the majors for the first time this year to face the Braves. He has three appearances in the minors, throwing 8.0 innings and allowing 14 hits. He also allowed 11 runs in that span. The Braves offense woke up yesterday and put a nine-spot up on the board. There’s no reason to think they won’t tag Medina at least as well as minor league teams have been.
Paul Goldschmidt – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Goldschmidt’s year hasn’t started off all that well. The former NL MVP is hitting just .222 on the year and has an uncharacteristically low seven homers. However, he’s been hitting much better as of late. He’s beaten this projection in four of his last seven games. In that span, he’s totaled 20 total bases – nearly three per game.
On top of this recent hot turn, the Cardinals’ first baseman has had past success against Taijuan Walker. They’ve faced each other ten times and Goldschmidt has five hits. Four of those hits went for extra bases as well.
Freddie Freeman – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Speaking of first basemen with solid head-to-head success, Freddie Freeman has feasted on Austin Gomber in his career. Like Goldschmidt, Freeman is 5-for-10 career off of Gomber with three of them going for extra bases. Freeman has been even hotter with the bat too. He has beaten this projection in five of his last seven games, which has brought his average up to .290. He should get to this number with just one swing.
