MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 25
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Detroit Tigers
First Pitch – 1:10 pm EST
Comerica Park – Detroit, Michigan
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Blue Jays offense has been a huge letdown this season. After finishing 2023 in the middle of the pack in terms of runs scored, they find themselves 25th in the majors this year. They’re even worse in the first inning where they’re putting up just 0.27 runs per game (good for 27th in the league).
The pitching matchup shouldn’t help the Blue Jays, either. Don’t let the 0-5 record confuse you with Reese Olson – he’s been lights out this season. He’s allowed one or less earned runs in each of his last five starts, which includes an eight-inning scoreless outing against Miami.
In the home half of the inning, things are looking equally promising for an NRFI. The Tigers are also in the bottom third in both runs and first inning runs. Now they’ll face Jose Berrios who has a sub-3.00 ERA and is striking out nearly one batter per inning. He should be able to hold on to finish this first inning off right.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 25: No (-130)
Baltimore Orioles vs. Chicago White Sox
First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Orioles could send out a trained seal to throw the first inning and I’d still give them a chance to get the NRFI against the White Sox. Chicago’s offense has been historically bad. They’re not only dead last in runs, but they’re 0.75 behind the next worst team. That 0.75 runs per game is the same gap between the 29th ranked team and the 13th ranked team. On top of that, Albert Suarez carries a 1.78 ERA into Saturday’s action.
Trusting an NRFI with the White Sox in it is easy on on side, but it’s always a bit shakey. However, Erick Fedde gives us some cause for confidence. He held his opponents scoreless in two of his last three starts. Despite having a rough last outing, his ERA is only up to 3.10. I think he should have enough to get us three early ones against this Baltimore squad.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 25: No (-125)
