Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 21

Bryce Harper – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Harper has 13 total bases in his last five games. That means his average for this stat category over that span is 2.6 per game. That certainly gives me a lot of confidence in him going into Tuesday. As if I needed more, he also has a good pitching matchup. He’ll face Jon Gray, who he’s already hit a pair of homers off of in his career. I think he’ll be able to at least rip a double in there.

Zach Short – Higher than 0.5 Total Bases

Short has been a mini-revelation for the Braves since acquiring him from the Red Sox. In his last seven games, Short has six total bases. Apart from one brutal game against the Padres, he’s only struck out a couple of times, and he’s played solid defense as well.

There is a chance Austin Riley will be ready to go today, but if that happens, this projection will just push. If he does get one more start, I like his chances to prove he belongs on the big club moving forward.

Yandy Diaz – Lower than 1.5 Total Bases

It’s been a week since Yandy Diaz had an extra-base hit. That’s alarming when you’re looking at total bases and seeing that he needs a pair. Additionally, he’s played four games against the Red Sox in that span and has just two hits (2-for-17). Cooper Criswell has been sneaky good for Boston, and I don’t see Diaz breaking out of the big hit slump here.
