Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 18
Luis Gil Higher than 2.0 Walks Allowed
Luis Gil is on the bump for the Yankees as they take on the last-place Chicago White Sox, who have actually been playing better ball as of late! We have used Gil here before, and I explained how he has some of the best stuff in baseball. But like with any pitcher, the nastier the pitches, the more wild that pitcher is. Gil is no exception.
He has walked more than two batters in five of his eight starts, and in two of those, he walked two exactly. He also has two games this season with four walks and one with seven walks, so he definitely has the ability to be wild at times.
Tyler O’Neill Higher than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
O’Neill started the 2024 season scorching hot with his new threads. He has cooled off a bit as of late, but there is no question he has been one of the bright spots for Boston this year. O’Neill comes into this game with just 3 hits in his last six games played, but one of those came yesterday against his former team.
Today, he will face off against Miles Mikolas, who has been objectively one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball this season. I think we see a huge breakout for O’Neill here in a game in his old stomping grounds.
Elly De La Cruz Higher than 7.5 Fantasy Points
A lot was made of Elly De La Cruz’s struggles to begin the season. Should the Reds send him down? Should they bench him? Could they even trade him? De La Cruz has made the mere thought of all those questions a joke. He is mashing again and stealing bases at an unprecedented rate. HE ALREADY HAS 30 STOLEN BASES! Absolutely unreal stuff this year from Elly.
In this one, I really like his matchup against Walker Buehler. Buehler was roughed up pretty badly on each of his two starts coming off Tommy John surgery. And obviously, with fantasy points in use, we can cash simply from stolen bases and runs!
