MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 10

Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox

First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – MLB TV

Cleveland might be one of the better scoring teams in the majors this year, but they are still a below average team early in the game. They rank tied for 19th in MLB in terms of runs per first inning (0.46). They’ll face Garrett Crochet on Friday, who doesn’t have great numbers on the surface. However, he has only allowed three earned runs over his last two starts (11.0 innings pitched). He also recorded 13 strikeouts in that span, which shows me he should have an way to get out of this first inning with no runs.

Carlos Carrasco will be opposite Crochet on Friday. He too has had his rough moments on the season, but has righted the ship. He’s coming off a six-inning, one-run outing against the Angels. When you add in that the White Sox are the worst scoring team in the majors (2.89 runs per game), Carrasco should be able to find us an NRFI.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 10: No (-120)

Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners

First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, Washington
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Athletics, despite over achieving on the year, are 22nd in the majors in terms of runs scored. They are even worst in the first inning – 28th place with just 0.28 innings per first inning. They will face Bryan Woo – who closed last season hot. He had three straight starts with no earned runs scored, which included a five inning outing where he kept these Atheltics scoreless.

In order to keep the NRFI alive, we need both sides to get the job done. The Mariners also aren’t great at scoring in the first inning – 26th in MLB with 0.32 per first inning. They’re also 24th in the league in terms of runs scored any time during the game. Put them in there against Paul Blackburn, who carries a 3.00 ERA into Friday, and the NRFI seems safe to me.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 10: No (-120)
