Underdog Fantasy NBA Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 4
Nikola Jokic – Higher than 49.5 Pts + Rebs + Asts
A total of 49.5 points plus rebounds plus assists might seem high, but the way Nikola Jokic is playing he could top it with points and rebounds alone. The expected MVP this season had a tremendous first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Jokic is averaging 28.2 ppg, 16.2 rpg, and 9.8 apg these playoffs, for a total of 54.2, by my math. He topped this 49.5 total in four of the five games against the Lakers. Even adjusting for the tougher opponent and much tougher defense, I think The Joker can top 49.5 for us in Game 1.
Anthony Edwards – Higher than 27.5 Points
The playoff spotlight has never been too bright for Anthony Edwards, and this season he’s taking it up to another level. He was spectacular in the Minnesota Timberwolves first-round sweep of the Phoenix Suns, averaging 31.0 ppg
But this is no fluke, as Edwards put up 31.6 ppg in last year’s playoffs for the Wolves. He had one quiet game against Phoenix where he scored 15 points, but in the other three games, he put up 33, 36, and 40 points. He averaged right at his season average of 26 points against Denver this season – I think he can get us 28 tomorrow night.
Michael Porter Jr – Higher than 18.5 Points
If Michael Porter Jr keeps playing at the level he did in Denver’s first-round defeat of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Nuggets are going to be very hard to beat. MPJ was third on the team in scoring, as per usual, in the series, but he still averaged 22.8 ppg.
What’s more, Porter but up 58 points over Denver’s last three games against Minnesota in the regular season, outscoring his season average of 16.7 ppg. He has yet to score less than 20 points these playoffs – let’s hope tomorrow keeps that streak going.
