Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 2
Ryan Mountcastle Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Ryan Mountcastle has been struggling in this series against the Yankees. He’s hitless in the first three games, but hey, better late than never to turn it around. Although Mountcastle has yet to face Yankees Thursday starter Carlos Rodon, he does have outstanding splits against lefties both in his career and this season.
This season, Mountcastle has a .889 OPS against left-handed pitching. Although Rodon has looked dominant this season, he still seems to be susceptible to some hard contact. The bottom line is the bats for both teams have been a bit dead this series. The daytime atmosphere may be enough to change things up and get some runs on the board.
Patrick Wisdom Higher than 0.5 Total Bases
On Thursday, Wisdom will play just his sixth game of the season after missing some time with a sprained wrist he suffered back in late March. Wisdom has yet to pick up a hit on the season against a right-handed pitcher (0-4), but what better time than now to get it started?
Wisdom and the Cubs will face Mets’ starting pitcher Adrian Houser. Houser has been roughed up a bit this season, pitching to an 8.37 ERA. Wisom also is 3-6 off Houser in his career. I’m wondering if they are just baiting me with this 0.5 total bases being so low. If so, I’m falling hook, line, and sinker.
Jose Ramirez Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
I’ve picked J-Ram quite a few times this season already, and it has worked out in my favor more than it hasn’t. Ramirez is a professional hitter who is a threat from both sides of the plate. On Thursday, Ramirez and the Guardians face off against Houston’s Spencer Arrighetti.
Arrighetti is a 24-year-old rookie who has not fared well in the majors. In just 10.2 innings pitched, he’s surrendered 18 hits and 13 earned runs, which is good for a 10.97 ERA. I love J-Ram in this spot and even against the struggling Astros bullpen.
