MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 27
Oakland Athletics vs. Baltimore Orioles
First Pitch – 4:05 pm EST
Camdan Yards – Baltimore, Maryland
Broadcast – MLB TV
If you’ve been following this column day to day, you know that I love an NRFI that I can play with sweat only on one side. The Athletics usually give me that option thanks to their sub-par offense. They’re 29th in MLB in runs scored with just 2.85 per game. They’re also notably bad when it comes to the first inning. They have just 0.35 runs per first inning on the year, which puts them in 25th place.
The one side that might make us sweat is the Orioles trying to score off of JP Sears. However, Sears has faced the Yankees, the Cardinals and the Rangers over his last three starts – impressive competition. In that span, he’s thrown 17.1 innings with just one earned run allowed. Add in the 16 strikeouts in those three outings and he and Oakland should be able to handle the Orioles top of their order. Given that fact, I like the NRFI here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 27: No (-125)
Cleveland Guardians vs. Atlanta Braves
First Pitch – 7:20 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, Braves
Broadcast – MLB TV
The defensive game for the Braves has been solid, which makes this NRFI in play. What also makes the NRFI in play is the fact that Cleveland is 29th in the rate of which they score runs in the first inning. Regardless of the other side, you have to love what they’re doing in this spot – or rather not doing in this spot.
In the bottom half of the inning, it’s a touch more complicated. The Braves have been a solid offense on the year and have scored more runs per game than any other team. However, Tanner Bibee has been good as of late. He’s allowed just three earned runs over the last two games – which equates to 10.2 innings. I can see him getting through the first against the Braves to get this to cash at a reduced number.
