NBA First FG Props – April 24
Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
TD Garden – Boston, Massachusetts
Broadcast – TNT
Bam Adebayo has been great on the tip over the season. He’s won 50 of the 75 tips he’s taken this year (66.7%). However, he’s still 12.6% behind Kristaps Ponzingis in that realm. Nobody in the NBA with at least 41 tips had a better rate than Porzingis. With the tip winner in the regular season getting 64.6% of the first buckets that’s already a good sign for the Celtics. They were also number on in the league in first bucket success rate – so let’s ride with Boston here.
Since the turn of the calendar, the Celtics have only had one occurance of the same player getting the first bucket on two successes in a row. That’s because they have a lot of players who get those early shots. Porzingis, Jayson Tatum and Jalen Brown all have double digit first field goals on the year. Brown got the score in game one, which means we’ll choose between the other two here. With Porzingis dealing with Adebayo on the inside, I like Tatum here.
First FG Bet for April 24: Jayson Tatum (+700)
New Orleans Hornets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
Tipoff – 9:30 pm EST
Paycom Center – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Broadcast – TNT
Chet Holmgren isn’t quite as good on the tip as Kristaps Porzingis. However, he does have a 59.0% tip win percentage and that will afford him a 9.6% advantage over Jonas Valanciunas. With the two teams having roughly the same first field goal percentage, you’d have to lean to the team winning the tip. The Pelicans stole a tip away in game one, and the Thunder still scored first. That should instill even more confidence.
These teams have played each other three times during the regular season and one time in the playoffs. In all four of those games, the Thunder scored first. In three of those games, Holmgren scored the first bucket with Josh Giddey being the line outlier. With 75% of the games going to Holmgren, I like his chances again here.
First FG Bet for April 24: Chet Holmgren (+400)
