MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 15
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Mets
First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Citi Field – Queens, New York
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Mets were one of the worst teams in the majors last year when it came to scoring in the first inning. They ranked 29th in the league with a success rate of just 22.2%. They’ve pickeed up right were they left off with just 21.4% this year.
To go along with those stellar Mets numbers, the Pirates are one of the few teams worse at scoring in the first inning. They’ve done so in just 13.3% of their games so far. That, too, follows their trend from last year where they were ranked 27th in MLB.
To make the NRFI even easier, the Pirates send Martin Perez to the bump. The lefty has allowed just four earned in 19.0 innings so far this year. Adrian Houser gets the nod for the Mets. He did give up a first inning run to the Braves last game, but I think we can all agree that Atlanta has a much more potent offense.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 15: No (-115)
Cincinatti Reds vs. Seattle Mariners
First Pitch – 9:42 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, Washington
Broadcast – MLB TV
This is a game build for the NRFI crowd. These teams are ranked 28th and 29th respectively in MLB in first inning runs. The Reds average just 0.14 runs pet first inning and the Mariners are a touch worse at 0.13. The Reds are scoring in the first inning of about one out of every seven games and that’s the better of these two teams.
If you needed more incentive, both teams are sending out one of their best pitchers. Frankie Montas has been lights out for the Reds this year with just a 2.16 ERA. Although George Kirby hasn’t been stellar on this short season, I think we see him hold off the Reds for at least one and get us that NRFI pick.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 15: No (-125)
