MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 13
Cincinatti Reds vs. Chicago White Sox
First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – MLB TV
A few White Sox fans blinked when Garrett Crochet was named the opening day starter on the Southside. However, he’s looked every bit the part of the role. In three starts he’s gone 18.0 innings and only allowed four runs. With the Reds getting a first inning run in just 15.4% of their games so far this year, this really becomes a one-sided equation for the NRFI.
If you’re looking at a one-sided equation that hinges on the potency of the White Sox offense, that’s a good time to go low. The White sox have scored less runs than anyone in the majors this year. They’re averaging just 2.31 runs per game. Furthermore, they’ve only scored in the first inning 23.1% of the time.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 13: No (-130)
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Baltimore Orioles
First Pitch – 4:05 pm EST
Camden Yards – Baltimore, Maryland
Broadcast – MLB TV
This game features a pair of top 10 offenses in run scoring this season. The Orioles rank 10th in runs per game, and the Brewers rank 2nd. With a combined 11.79 runs per game on average, it’s hard to imagine there would be an inning in which they don’t score. However, I’m still looking at the NRFI here.
The reason for the NRFI love here is all in the pitching. Milwaukee rookie DL Hall has had an average start to his career, but looked solid at the start of his most recent start against the Mariners. He induced weak contact and only allowed an infield single in the opening frame.
Dean Kramer is coming off of seven shutout innings against the Pirates, who also have a solid run-scoring offense. I expect him to build off of that success here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 13: No (-125)
