Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – April 12
All Pick ‘Em Selections Record: 9-4 (69.2%)
Perfect 3-0 Pick Em Entries: 1
Luis Severino Higher than 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed
I faded Luis Severino earlier this year, and I’m going to keep doing so until he proves he can consistently throw his fastball as an effective pitch. To be fair, Sevy had a much better outing last Saturday against the Reds. He went 5.0 innings, only allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits.
The problem I see here for Severino is running into the hottest team in baseball, the Kansas City Royals. The Royals have won seven games in a row, including a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros, outscoring Houston 28-8 in the process. As a team, the Royals are third in home runs and fourth in slugging percentage. I think they tag Sevy for a few runs early on in this one.
Jose Altuve Higher than 7.0 Fantasy Points
Shockingly, the Houston Astros sit in last place in the AL West with a 4-10 record, marking their worst start since 2013. Coming off an embarrassing loss to the Royals, Houston needs to get the bats rolling against the Rangers on Friday night. Who better for the job than Jose Altuve?
Despite the Astros’ struggles, Jose Altuve has been pulling his weight. The 33-year-old is hitting .370 with 3 home runs and a 1.100 OPS. Altuve also has tons of success against Rangers starting pitcher Dane Dunning. In 14 at bats, Altuve is 7-14 with 4 walks, 2 home runs, and 2 RBIs.
Dunning has not been impressive so far this season. He’s allowed 3 runs in each of his first two starts. Look for Altuve to get the Astros back on track on Friday.
Corey Seager Higher than 2.0 Runs + Hits + RBIs
On the other side of this matchup, Corey Seager has been struggling a bit, only recording 5 hits in his last five games. He is batting .311 but not driving in runs and slugging like we are accustomed to Corey Seager doing. Friday’s starter for Houston, J.P. France, is a great matchup for Seager.
France is a right-handed pitcher who is not overly dominant with his stuff. His average fastball velocity is just 92.1, which favors the slugger Seager. Seager also has good numbers against France. He’s 4-7 with 2 home runs and 3 RBIs. I’m expecting a huge Seager game tonight.
