Is Euro 2024 England’s To Lose?

The European Championships are fast approaching and the conversations about who will emerge victorious from the tournament are starting to gather speed. With so many great nations packed with excelling footballing talent involved, there are many that can be considered as favourites to win the tournament. However, if you consider the form players in Europe right now, the one nation that stands out from the rest is England.

With the European domestic leagues all building towards a climax, the cream is starting to set at the top of each league and in many of the teams in the hunt for domestic titles, there are a number of standout English players that will be hoping to take their club form into summer’s showpiece. The latest Euro’s betting at Cloudbet has England as favourites and that is a justified choice right now when you look at the pedigree of players currently shining for their clubs. The betting markets can change between now and Friday 14th June, when the tournament kicks off in Munich, but Gareth Southgate’s men certainly have the backing of the bookies right now.

English talent lighting up the Premier League…

We are currently in the midst of perhaps the most closely contested Premier League title race in decades. Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City are slugging it out at the top and not only do all three teams have an abundance of English talent that should certainly make the plane to Germany, but many are currently in red hot form.

The likes of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Ben White, Manchester City’s Phil Foden, John Stones and Kyle Walker and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez all appear regularly in the starting elevens at their clubs and will hope to start the match against Serbia on 16th June.

…and also conquering the continent!

Outside of the Premier League, Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are racking up impressive stats for FC Bayern Munich and Real Madrid respectively. Kane has already broken the 30-goal mark in the Bundesliga and Bellingham continues to contribute goals and assists in his new false nine role.

Whilst there are many reasons to back England this summer, there are many other nations that will think they stand a chance. France’s Kylian Mbappe will want to go one better than the World Cup final defeat to Argentina. Portugal have a star-studded squad. Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands also boast strong tournament pedigree, and hosts Germany will want to make the most of home advantage. However, if Southgate can knit together the individual brilliance that many of the above-mentioned players possess, England can consider themselves strong favourites to lift the trophy on 14th July.
