Underdog Fantasy College Basketball Picks March 23

Matthew Dewoskin Underdog Fantasy College Basketball Pick Em Record (Est 3/1/2024)

All Pick Em Selections: 40-23-0 (63.4%)
Spicy Multiplier Picks: 2-0 (100%)
Perfect 3-0 Pick Em Entries: 5-16 (+2.2 units)

Steven Ashworth (Creighton) Lower Than 12.5 Points

Creighton guard Steven Ashworth is coming into his round two matchup with Oregon, averaging only 10.7 points per game. Ashworth has failed to go higher than 12.5 points in five of his last six games.

Ashworth is the Blue Jays floor general. He doesn’t look to get his own shot and prefers to captain the offense. His job is to distribute, not to jack up shots. He’s shot the ball fewer than 10 times in four of his last six. It’s hard for guards to rack up points without volume.

Meechie Johnson scored 24 against the Ducks’ offense, but he’s more of a slasher/attacker than Ashworth is. Look for Ashworth to continue to distribute and go lower on his points total in your Underdog college basketball entry for March 23.

Max Abmas (Texas) Lower Than 22.5 Points+Rebounds+Assists

Texas point guard Max Abmas is coming into the second round struggling. He’s averaging 17.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.2 assists this year, but he’s failed to clear 22.5 PRA in seven of his last nine games. He also gets the Tennessee Volunteers.

The Vols defense just got done making life miserable for the St. Peter’s offense. Look for Tennessee to do the same to the Longhorns, and Abmas in particular. Abmas is best when he can find space and shoot. That’s going to be a challenge against the suffocating team defense that the Volunteers bring to the table.

Tamin Lipsey (Iowa State) Higher Than 4.0 Assists

Iowa State point guard Tamin Lipsey is coming into his second-round matchup with Washington State, averaging 4.9 assists per game. He’s also cleared 4.0 assists in three straight games, including seven against South Dakota State on Thursday.

Lipsey’s seven assist game against the Jackrabbits came in only 29 minutes. Lipsey should end up with a higher usage rate in the second round and should have plenty of opportunities to get his teammates a few easy finishes.

Washington State allowed Drake point guard Connor Enright to rack up five assists before he fouled out. Look for Lipsey to get his teammates involved early and often while he goes higher than 4.0 assists in your Underdog college basketball entry for March 23.
