College Basketball Picks March 15th
Pittsburgh vs. North Carolina (-7.5) (O/U 147.5)
Starting with the Pittsburgh Panthers, who may have done enough to secure a spot in the big dance. They discarded Wake Forest yesterday and face a UNC team that has figured it out just in time. A win for the Panthers would go a long way to secure their spot but this should be all North Carolina.
North Carolina is athletic enough to cover Blake Hinson. Of course, I’m not talking about Armando Bacot. This is a Harrison Ingram shoutout. UNC’s flexibility in their lineups should pressure the Panthers to race the floor and keep up with the scoring.
Unders have been a theme for the neutral court matchups in the conference tournaments, but UNC is completely ignoring that. Take the over on points in this one. North Carolina in a rout.
The Pick: Over 147.5
Texas Tech vs. Houston (-8.5) (O/U 131.5)
Impressive win by Texas Tech yesterday, controlling BYU from the tip. The Red Raiders took it to the Cougars, holding BYU to 20% shooting from deep. The Red Raiders keep the theme consistent and play the Houston Cougars for a spot in the Big 12 final.
The big thing about the Red Raiders has been consistency. Texas Tech is able to shoot the ball well from deep. However, Jamal Shead is waiting for Pop Isaacs. That will leave the Red Raiders a man down on the perimeter just to create even more trouble getting to the rim than Texas Tech already has.
Houston displayed why they are able to slowly suffocate teams from the tip in their matchup with TCU. They were able to get out ahead early and grind TCU down.
Jamal Shead had 5 steals. This same pressure from Shead creates a real problem for Texas Tech and everyone else in the country. They are forced to find a game out of players who aren’t used to being depended on. Back door cover threat.
The Pick: Houston -8.5
