Year after year, the West Coast Conference has become known as “Gonzaga’s Conference.” This year, things are different… For the first time in multiple years, The Zags are not the top seed. Saint Mary’s is the number one seed in The WCC Tournament with a 15-1 conference record. This tournament is usually a lock for The Zags to win, but things will be much closer this time around. Let’s take a deeper dive with my 2024 West Coast Conference Tournament Preview, complete with Picks and Best Bets!

2024 West Coast Conference Tournament Preview, Best Bets, and Picks
The Favorite: Gonzaga -115
All that noise about Gonzaga not being the top seed, and yet here they are as the -115 favorites to win it all. Usually, they are closer to -300, so this is surely a change. Gonzaga’s two losses came to Santa Clara and Saint Mary’s by a combined three points.
Over the middle of the season, The Zags looked extremely vulnerable. They turned the tide on February 10th after going into Rupp Arena and beating Kentucky. Since then, they have been flawless and are sure favorites to win this conference.
Other Contender: Saint Mary’s +105
We are almost certainly destined for a Zags-Gaels part three in the WCC Tournament Final. This conference is staggered, so its top two seeds get bye’s to the semi-finals. This is a great setup for one-bid leagues to ensure their top dog heads to the big dance.
Saint Mary’s has been solid all season but ran into Gonzaga on the wrong day. Simply put, their best ball is not enough to compete with Gonzaga’s best ball.
That is hard to stomach for Gonzaga haters, but great offense beats great defense all day. Scoring is the name of the game, and if Saint Mary’s wants to take that next step, they need to ramp up the pace on the offensive end.
Longshot: San Diego +15000
The Toreros come into this event as the five seed, but they do have some upside, especially 150/1. San Diego is coached by Steve Lavin, who has a ton of experience in the college hoops world.
His leader, Deuce Turner, averages over 15 points per game and has what it takes to take over a game. Clearly, they are a long shot, but with Lavin’s experience and Turner’s skill, they are worth a look.
