College Basketball Picks February 18th
Florida Atlantic at South Florida (+5) (O/U 147)
It seems as if the Owls have been figured out a little after their run last season. I am not speaking badly about the Final Four team that is still ranked nationally in the top 25. However, they are no longer a darling. They’re a target. This team was always going to come back strong after bringing back nearly the entire roster.
The South Florida Bulls would like a word. They could very well be the team that makes a surprise run similar to what the Owls did last season. They currently lead the conference and host the Owls for a pivotal matchup with huge implications in the standings and at large bids. We will have a bracket before you know it. Bracketology currently has South Florida as a 13 seed.
South Florida is an outstanding 15-5-3 against the spread this season. An absolute cash cow after starting 2-4 straight up. It took a couple of games for this newly assembled team to figure out how to mesh, and they have done it in a big way.
The respect is still there from the books as the FAU Owls are 12-13 this year ATS and now travel to USF, who is undefeated at home in conference play.
Take the Bulls with the points and on the money line. This is an outstanding game between great coaches for high stakes in the conference. Back the home underdog.
The Pick: South Florida +5
Rutgers at Minnesota (-3) (O/U 131)
Don’t look now. Minnesota is the best team in the country against the spread, sitting at a very profitable 21-3. This has been making waves on social media. However, this isn’t a bet-it-and-forget-it game for the Gophers.
The Scarlet Knights have suddenly put together four straight wins. There’s a correlation there, as Jeremiah Williams has changed the complexion of this team. Williams has played in those four games and brought the spark they have desperately needed this season. They are playing more complete basketball.
Those games are no easy wins, either. Rutgers has gone into Michigan and Maryland to win outright. Then defended home court against Wisconsin and Northwestern. While Northwestern is dealing with their own loss of Berry – it is still a good win.
Scarlet Knights with the points today and may be able to take the game outright. The ATS record for the Gophers is impressive, but don’t be blinded by it against a Rutgers team that has a key cog back now.
The Pick: Rutgers +3
