Underdog Fantasy UFC 297 Pick ‘Em Plays

Sean Strickland – Higher than 75.5 Significant Strikes

We’ll kick things off in the main event, where I’m taking the higher than 75.5 significant strikes from the UFC Middleweight Champion, Sean Strickland. I think UFC 297’s main event is a two-outcome fight – Strickland wins via decision, or Dricus Du Plessis wins via knockout.

Even if DDP wins (which is what I’m predicting), I don’t think it’ll be so quick that Strickland won’t get his licks in first. Strickland is a volume striker, blowing past the 75.5 significant strikes projection in nine of his last 10 fights.

Mayra Bueno Silva – Higher than 22.5 Fight Time (Mins)

To the co-main event we go, where I’m predicting Mayra Bueno Silva will win the vacant UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship over Raquel Pennington via decision. Pennington doesn’t get finished in fights, with 21 of her 23 professional MMA fights going to the judges’ scorecards.

And while MBS does tend to finish her opponents off, I don’t see it happening here. So higher than 22.5 minutes of fight time is the play for me.

Mike Malott – Higher than 9.9 Fight Time (Mins)

I’m also expecting the third fight from the top, a middleweight matchup between Neil Magny and Mike Malott, to be a drawn-out affair. Magny is a huge step up in competition for Malott, and he’s a difficult fighter to get a handle on due to his immense length advantage at 185 pounds (he’ll have seven inches of reach on Malott).

I’m actually picking the big underdog, Magny, to win this fight, and I don’t think he’ll be finishing off the Canadian. Magny will suck him into his style of fight and grind out a decision victory. Higher than 9.9 minutes it is.
