Underdog Pick Em Record (Est 12/1/2023)

All Pick Em Selections: 34-22-2 (60.7%)

Spicy Multiplier Picks: 1-0 (100%)

Perfect 3-0 Pick Em Entries: 1-18 (-2.2 units)

Fletcher Loyer (Purdue) Lower Than 5 Rebounds + Assists

The biggest game of the day takes place in West Lafayette, Indiana. A Terrence Shannon Jr.-less Illinois team takes on No. 1 Purdue in Mackey Arena. This is my first pick of two from this game that favors the Boilermakers by 10 points. The Fighting Illini hold opponents to only 41.1% of their field goals via assists (15th).

Fletcher Loyer historically cracks in big-pressure moments and marquee matchups. I am specifically targeting his rebounds + assists prop because he still puts up plenty of shots. However, Loyer has cleared 5 Reb + Ast in just two of Purdue’s 14 games so far this season. Illinois has positional size and length against Loyer that may give the Sophomore guard some issues.

Ty Rodgers (Illinois) Higher Than 6.5 Rebounds + Assists

Very few rebounds squirt out past Purdue’s center Zach Edey. Inversely, Illinois is the 15th-best offensive rebounding team in the country and is ranked 41st in defensive rebounding. Coleman Hawkins is the Fighting Illini’s 5-man, but he’s a perimeter threat. Edey may be dragged out to the arc more than normal.

The Boilermakers also allow 57.4% of the baskets scored on them via an assist (274th). Ty Rodgers’ role has expanded since Shannon’s suspension. The 6’6 point guard has an advantage on the glass against a smaller Purdue backcourt.

I expect Rodgers to continue to average 13.5 Reb + Ast without Shannon available. As it is, in Rodgers’ last 10 games, he has recorded more than 6.5 Reb + Asts in nine of them.

Tristen Newton (UConn) Lower Than 28.5 PRA

Butler’s Posh Alexander is an elite defender. As a Freshman at St John’s, Alexander won Big East Defensive Player of the Year. This year he is still an elite defender per EvanMiya.com’s DBPR (1.40).

Bulldogs’ head coach, Thad Matta, will probably stick Alexander on Tristen Newton for the majority of this game. A strong 6-1 to the lower than 28.5 points, rebounds, and assists in the last seven games trend supports this fade on Newton.
