NBA First FG Props – January 6

Utah Jazz vs. Philadelphia 76ers

Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Wells Fargo Center – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Broadcast – ESPN

The Jazz have quickly become one of the best teams to fade in the first bucket world. They rank 29th in the league in terms of jumpball data at 30.6%. Somehow, they’re still worse on the first bucket – where they rank 30th at just 25.0%. The 76ers are not world beaters when it comes to the early action, but anybody is when they’re playing the Jazz.

The 76ers have scored the first bucket 16 times on the year. That puts them at just 47.1%, which as we said before should be good enough against the Jazz. While the team numbers aren’t great, there are great numbers from one player. Joel Embiid has eight of those 16 first buckets. He hasn’t gotten either of their last two, which makes his due when you consider his success. Whether the odds are particularly juicy or not, you got to lean with those numbers.

First FG Bet for January 6: Joel Embiid (+300)

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Houston Rockets

Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Toyota Center – Houston, Texas
Broadcast – NBA League Pass

If you look at the first bucket data, there isn’t much separating the success rate of these two. The Bucks have a slight advantage that sits around 6%. That’s certainly not enough to lean in their direction, but their recent success and tip averages surely help. They have won four of the first six buckets. Also, they hold an advantage on the tip by a substantial margin – 60.0% to 45.5%. That should be enough to get a Bucks player on the board first.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has scored four of the last five first field goals for the Bucks. However, many of those haven’t been the first shots, just the first one to fall. Getting a surprising number of early looks – including some high percentage ones – is Brook Lopez. With the Bucks willing to let anyone shoot from anywhere, I like the big man to grab the first one here.

First FG Bet for January 6: Brook Lopez (+850)
