Our consecutive nights of cashing an NHL Underdog entry stopped at two after Tuesday night’s one-for-three card. The good news for the degens is that the season’s successful pick rate remains North of 76%. Wednesday night in the NHL features a light three-game slate, so I am keying in on role-playing defensemen.
After all, who doesn’t enjoy a little role-playing every now and again? So grab your reading glasses and pay attention because I will only say this once: we’re cashing this banger! Here are my three best NHL Underdog Fantasy Picks for December 20.

The Quick Pick: Daily NHL Underdog Fantasy Pick ’em Picks for December 20
Josh Morrissey Higher Than 0.5 Assists
The Winnipeg Jets have won a remarkable six out of their eight games in December. Helping to lead the charge is veteran defenseman Josh Morrissey, who has one goal and seven assists this month. Coming into Wednesday night’s matchup against the Red Wings, Morrissey is on a two-game assist streak.
The blue-liner also tallied an assist against these same Red Wings back in late October. Building our case even further is the fact that 12 of his 22 assists in 2023 have come at home. Our first NHL Underdog entry is Josh Morrissey to go Higher Than 0.5 Assists against Detroit on Wednesday night.
Noah Dobson Higher Than 0.5 Assists
Our next blue-liner in Wednesday night’s NHL Underdog entry is New York Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson. He’s been a large part of the Isles’ success in 2023, and tonight, against the Capitals, he should be buzzing. Coming into the matchup, Dobson has five goals and a stellar 28 assists in 2023.
He also has 12 assists across nine games here in December alone. The 23-year-old has also tallied six assists in eight games against Washington over the last two seasons. We’re not asking for an ark on Wednesday, Noah. Just one juicy apple, por favor? Let’s go ahead and take Noah Dobson to go Higher Than 0.5 Assists against the Washington Capitals.
Vince Dunn Higher Than 0.5 Points
Our third defenseman featured in Wednesday night’s NHL Underdog card is Seattle Kraken’s Vince Dunn. Although the Kraken are a shell of the team that they were last season, Dunn is still a role-player. Through 33 games in 2023, Dunn is sporting a total of four goals and 21 assists for 25 points.
Recently, Vince has also tallied six points across nine games here in December. The team will need his contributions if they have any chance of beating the scorching LA Kings on Wednesday night.
And oh by the way, Vince did record a point against the Kings just four nights ago on their ice. We’re mashing Higher Than 0.5 Points for Vince Dunn and cashing this 3-legged banger!
