UConn vs Gonzaga (+4.5) (O/U 151)

We can call this a neutral-site matchup, but they are playing in Seattle. This is still a cross-country flight for the Huskies. The oddsmakers are dangling a nice underdog line for Gonzaga in this marquee matchup.

That’s bait. This UConn Huskies team may not be as strong as the National Champions of last year, but they still outmatch the Bulldogs.

The country may not have a more complete team than the UConn Huskies. They complement their frontcourt of Donovan Clingan and Alex Karaban with three guards capable of scoring 20 on any given night.

Freshman Stephon Castle has played in just four games but brings energy and playmaking ability. Rutgers transfer Cam Spencer will spot up from deep, adding another element to the inside-out game and roster carryover.

Tristen Newton leads the team in both rebounding and assists, filling a role that Andre Jackson did so well for the Huskies a year ago.

This game will be decided from beyond the three-point line. The blueprint has been set to beat the Huskies by the Jayhawks. Kansas was able to edge UConn in Lawrence, but it took a 9/14 team effort from deep in just a 4-point win.

That’s the type of efficiency it takes. Gonzaga doesn’t have the defense or three-point shooting to beat this team in their current form, no matter where the game is played.

The Pick: UConn -4.5

New Mexico at New Mexico State (+14.5) (O/U 152.5)

The Lobos just took down the Aggies of New Mexico State 106-62 on December 2nd. These in-state opponents flip home court and run it back just two weeks later. The Lobos could start fast and never look back in a game without Jamal Mashburn Jr.

New Mexico State is 5-0 on their home court this season with a revenge on their mind. Unfortunately, that home record is skewed due to the quality of opponents that have visited Las Cruces.

Expecting some fight on their home court from the Aggies, but not enough to cover the spread. The Lobos are immensely more talented. The bench for New Mexico is still trustworthy, even if this game has a backdoor cover opportunity.

The Pick: New Mexico -14.5
