NBA First FG Props – December 9
Indiana Pacers vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
T-Mobile Arena – Las Vegas, Nevada
Broadcast – ABC and ESPN2
The only game on the docket for Saturday, or the whole weekend for that matter is the in-season tournament finals between the Pacers and the Lakers. The Pacers should have a slight advantage on the tip with Myles Turner turning in a 65% jumpball average this year and taking every single one of the Pacers tipoffs. Anthony Davis has taken all but one of the Lakers’ game starters and has a 54.6% average. The recent trends don’t bode better for Davis – he’s just 2-5 in his last seven jump balls.
While they have quite a difference in jumpball average, they have about the same look on the first buckets. The Pacers have a 60.0% average, while the Lakers have a 60.9% average. That’s not a big enough advantage to swing to the Lakers given that team winning the jump is getting the first backet around 68% of the time.
It’s tempting to lean to Obi Tobbin here. He has three straight first buckets for the Pacers. However, it’s pretty rare to see four in a row for any player. We’re about 25% into the season and only one player has been able to do that – Joel Embiid for the 76ers. In their last three games, Myles Turner has had two of the first shots – the other belonging to Tobbin. One of those games, he had both of their first two. The fact that they are coming from all ranges only gives me more faith he’ll find something to fall.
