College Basketball Picks – December 3rd

Clemson at Pittsburgh (-1) (O/U 146.5)

Let’s look at the ‘spot’ here. Pittsburgh goes into Morgantown in 3 days for the backyard brawl. That game is not taken lightly by those two schools. However, Pittsburgh is coming off the loss to Missouri with no time for a look-ahead spot. Clemson enters the game at 6-0 and on the second leg of back-to-back road games. They have their own rivalry game to look forward to in three days, as South Carolina will be heading to Clemson.

PJ Hall has taken a step forward this year for the Clemson Tigers. Syracuse transfer guard Joseph Girard is complementing the 6’10 Hall well offensively with a deep shot that has to be respected. Freshman Carlton ‘Bub’ Carrington is making quick strides to do the same for veteran forward Blake Hinson and the Pittsburgh Panthers. An important ACC game with no room for lookahead. Backing the Pittsburgh Panthers to defend home court on Sunday. Bub Carrington’s playmaking will be the difference.

The Pick: Pittsburgh -1

Creighton at Nebraska (+4) (O/U 148.5)

Is there anything better than an in-state rivalry? Creighton hits the road to take on the undefeated Huskers. The Blue Jays will look for a bit of revenge as they suffered defeat to the Huskers last year. Creighton was in the midst of their 6-game losing streak while battling injuries at the time.

Not only is Creighton healthy this year, but they may be better. Utah State transfer Steven Ashworth played a pivotal part in the Oklahoma State victory earlier this week with 17 points on the back of four three-pointers. Ashworth averaged 16.2 points per game last season and has not needed to match that output. Creighton’s three leading scorers average over 15 points per game and do it in 3 different ways, making Creighton a complete threat offensively.

We have seen them take a Big 10 home team take down a ranked opponent the last two nights. Don’t want to discredit the Nebraska home crowd on a Sunday afternoon, but Creighton is just flat-out better.

The Pick: Creighton -4
