The two Sunday night NHL games saw 16 total goals and even the rare Anaheim Ducks win. Our NHL Underdog entry took a beating before it even started, as Steven Stamkos was scratched from the Lightning lineup. So, let’s turn the page to the five-game Monday night slate and find a winner. For readers who followed in week one of the NHL, it has been tough sledding. However, I am reminded of a quote from Wedding Crashers, “Rule 76. No excuses, play like a champion.” So here are my four best NHL Underdog Fantasy Picks for October 16!
The Quick Pick: Daily NHL Underdog Fantasy Pick ’em Picks for October 16
Alex DeBrincat Higher Than 3.0 Shots
The 25-year-old winger for the Detroit Red Wings has put together two incredible games to start the 2023 season. On Monday night, he travels to Columbus to face a team fresh off a weekend win over the Rangers. The Blue Jackets have conceded a total of 79 shots on goal in just two games this year, and DeBrincat has the piping hot hand. Let’s lock in our first Underdog pick by pressing the Higher Than 3.0 Shots for Alex DeBrincat.
Elias Lindholm Higher Than 2.5 Shots
For those of you carefully reading along at home, you might have noticed a trend in my picks. The second pick on our Underdog Fantasy card is going to be Calgary Flames center Elias Lindholm to go Higher Than 2.5 Shots. History says that Elias has taken more than three shots on goal in each of his games against the Capitals over the last two seasons.
Add in that he has started off nicely in his two games in 2022, and I think this spot is a gem. Press the Higher Than 2.5 Shots for Lindholm, and don’t look back!
T.J. Oshie Higher Than 2.5 Shots (1.25X odds)
I have been an admirer of T.J. Oshie’s game ever since his performance for Team USA in the 2014 Olympics. I am also an admirer of how the Calgary Flames have given up 66 shots on goal in their first two games. With both the Capitals and Flames coming off a loss, this game should be an open affair with power plays galore. Let’s roll with the American winger here and punch the Higher Than 2.5 Shots for T.J. Oshie.
Mitchell Marner Higher Than 0.5 Goals (1.25X odds)
Here in the early going of the 2023 NHL season, the Leafs offense is firing on all cylinders. In their opener, they netted six and, over the weekend, another seven. On Monday night, they will face Connor Bedard and Co. when the Blackhawks visit Toronto. Marner has yet to find a goal this season, so why not start against a team that his Leafs should roll?
With Matthews scorching hot, the Blackhawks may slack just a bit on their other defensive assignments. And Marner has led the team in time on ice in both of their games in the 2023 season. So let’s snag Higher Than 0.5 Goals for Mitch Marner and cash this ticket!
