Week 4 Fantasy Football Flex Options Based on TD Opportunity
D.J. Moore – WR – Chicago Bears
Perhaps no one is sitting D.J. Moore despite his WR42 start in fantasy football leagues. After all, he was taken within the first four rounds of most fantasy football drafts. However, he should be due for a bounce-back against a poor Denver Broncos defense. This is a unit that gave up 70 points to the Dolphins last week and missed 24 tackles as well. Furthermore, offenses have scored on 59% of their drives against them this season (23% higher than the league average). Chicago will score multiple touchdowns this week, and Moore is the likely beneficiary.

The problem hasn’t been Moores’ play specifically, either. Moore remains productive but simply hasn’t been given the volume that fantasy managers expected. He only has a 14% target rate and has produced 1.59 yards per route run (No. 50 in the NFL). I do not expect this trend to continue, and the offense should begin to focus more on their best player. Moore isn’t a must-start this weekend but is a strong WR3 who is set up to score in back-to-back matchups.
Michael Thomas – WR – New Orleans Saints
Michael Thomas has struggled to stay on the football field these last several years. Nonetheless, he remains a massive part of the offense whenever he is healthy. Despite the emergence of Chris Olave, he is still No.20 in the NFL in target share and has run a route on every New Orleans pass play this year. The explosiveness is gone, but he is still a volume-based fantasy play based on his role in the offense.
With his size and strong hands, Thomas remains an excellent red zone threat and is in a great position to score. He scored 32 touchdowns in four seasons to begin his career and scored three touchdowns in three appearances last season. Even though Thomas hasn’t scored this season, he remains No.4 in the NFL in red zone targets. Thomas’ play shouldn’t fall off with Jameis Winston either, and he’s a strong flex option in Week 4 fantasy football matchups.
Josh Palmer – WR – Los Angeles Chargers
With Mike Williams out for the rest of the 2023 season with an ACL injury, Josh Palmer will be playing in two wide receiver sets alongside Keenan Allen. Palmer ran a route on all 10 of Justin Herbert’s dropbacks after Williams’ departure. This compares to only three for the rookie Quentin Johnston. Palmer is the apparent benefactor in the short term and is a must-start option this week. The Raiders have one of the worst defenses in the NFL that ranks 27th with seven passing touchdowns given up in 2023.
After Mike Williams got hurt this past week – Josh Palmer ran a route on 10/10 Herbert drop backs. QJ on 3/10.
Both Parham and G Everett played on more than 50% of snaps in week 3.
We may see an uptick in 12 personnel in the coming weeks, at the apparent expense of QJ.

Fantasy doesn’t have to be complicated, and Palmer is part of one of the best offenses in the league as well. The Chargers rank No.4 in pace of play, No.5 in pass plays per game, and No.1 in deep ball attempts in 2023. This is a perfect situation for these pass catchers, and Palmer should be in most fantasy lineups as a result. Despite limited playing time, he’s also received three red zone targets already this year. With extra coverage going to Allen this week, expect Palmer to find the endzone in Week 4.
Jordan Addison – WR – Minnesota Vikings
After one subpar outing in Week 3, Jordan Addison is back down to a WR4 in most Week 4 fantasy football rankings. This is a mistake, as his snap and target share percentage have increased each of the last three weeks. Similar to the Chargers, this is another perfect passing attack for fantasy football as well.
The Vikings rank No.1 in pass attempts, No.3 in pace of play, and No.2 in redzone pass attempts. The only thing holding back Addison from being a must-start fantasy football player is the lack of playing time.
That appears to be changing, though, and I would start him over the likes of Terry McLaurin or Chris Godwin as a result. Carolina has been strong against the pass this year, but that can be slightly misleading. They haven’t been competitive in two games this year, and Geno Smith was able to pass for nearly 300 yards in Week 3.
Rachaad White – RB – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Rachaad White has gotten one of the highest workloads in the league so far. Unfortunately, his role hasn’t generated very much fantasy production as of yet. Despite ranking as the RB20, he is No.43 in yards per touch and No.49 in fantasy points per opportunity. The inefficiency that plagued him during his rookie season has followed him this year, and he has struggled despite an immense workload. Many fantasy managers questioned whether he would get a full-time role in this offense, and they’ve been proven wrong.

He has received the sixth most rushing attempts in the NFL and is tenth in routes run, too. White is the clear lead back, and Sean Tucker poses little threat to his job despite his lack of efficiency. White is the only running back who has 100% of his team’s goal-line work as well. New Orleans has a tough run defense, but Tampa Bay should be in scoring position a couple of times this game, and White is due to punch it in.
